well it seems the thing that we feared the most here in the UK has happened, this morning, terrorists struck in London. With several explosions on the underground, and a buss being blown up by a suecide bomber, London is now in a state of chaos. The one positive thing though, is that there were not a high number of fatalities, although there were high numbers of casualties. These bastards may have caused temperary chaos here, but they will! not! win!
My sympathies to my UK friends on here and really to all people of London, seeing as I was practically brought up in London (spent most of my fist 5 years there in various eye treatments etc) I always feel somewhat associated with the city. Looking at the BBC news stories today though I get the feeling that the number of casualites might rise significantly from 2 to, my impression/guess would be 40 to 60, I most certainly hope that I am very much wrong on this account and it won't be that bad at all.
Awful stuff. Sadly it had to happen somewhere, now if Bush had only managed or even come close to capturing the Al Qaeda main figures this might not have happened, but whtaever has already happened cannot be alterred, we just have to come together and make the best of it.
Sad day indeed.
cheers

well estimates on bbc news are that there are over a thousand injured, with 300 of those being confirmed as serious. as yet only 2 fatalities have been reported but they think it will be hours before the full extent will be known.
Very sad day indeed. It made me sick to my stomach this morning when I heard it on the news. When it happened here in the U.S. four years ago, the initial estimates of death and casualties was much higher than the actual numbers, even thought the actual numbers were bad enough. So hopefully the actual numbers in London will not be as high as estimated. But it doesn't matter whether the attacks are in the U.S. or London, it is still a terrible thing no matter where it happens. I just wish someone could stop the terrorists.
but how do you stop someone who is prepared to die in the name of their cause. If that's the ultimate price someone is prepared to pay, there's not much you can do t deter them.
stupid tarorists, I don't understand why someone has to go and kill. I feel for all of those in lundon, and I hope that everyohne on here's ok. I hate when these attacks happen, because I fear that eventually it will be Canada.
yeah, I'm sorry it happened to you guys, but I was kinda wundering how long it would take till it did! and I also wunder if it's more g8 related than anything.
I can imagine that Al Qeada are at this moment planning attacks on on the capital cities, this was because of the G8 summit so who's to say that Moscow or Washington isn't next on the list I hope they have been warned...these cowards picked the wrong country ..as we have over a decade of experience in dealing with terrorism London is already begining to recover...
it is well known that the british are among the best in the wrold at security, both overt and covert. it is a tribute to the emergency services that london is getting back to something like normal only nine hours after the insodents began. The casualty numbers I'm not sure of, but the fatalities number 33 at the time of writing. Hats off to everyone who helped this day.
Glasgow is crawling with police and the atmosphere is decidedly tense... they did mention on the news, that there is a possibility of an attack on Edinburgh!..the authorities there have no experience of terrorism and I dread to think how they will cope...
i can't really add anything to what's been said. just needed to add my voice of support! yet again these terrorists have stooped to the lowest possible level by showing a total disregard for life and i'm crying in side for that fact!
its been a sad sad day.
If Canada is clever enough to keep to herself you should be ok..
reality is that after an event like this they always mention that there is a possibility of an attack on this city, or that city, reality is that they probably already had thought of the possibility of an attack on edinburgh as the G8 summit is being held there, and chances are that security was already heightened there. at the moment the death toll in london stands at 33, however this is only confirmed from the bomb blasts on the three trains, as yet the death toll from the buss that exploded is not known. Also 700 people have been confirmed as injured, although a lot of those were just minor injuries.
You know, that's the thing. This bullshit, and I'm sorry to use such language, will never stop. We all can sit back and speak about what we should've, could've and would've done, but it's too late.
What happened to us in the U.S. four years, never should've, but our glorious government allowed it to happen, knowing what they knew ahead of time, and knowing what they've should've done, but didn't.
I sympathize with those they have to go through what they are going through now, and although I don't have loved ones in the armed forces or things of that nature, I still feel the loss any time this happens anywhere in the world. I feel such a loss due to the fact that people have to be so ignorant of other peoples lives. I don't care what people do to themselves, but when other people who are innocent become involved, for no reason, that makes my blood just simply boil.
I was really shocked when I heard this yesterday. I was asking where is the love, honestly. A friend of mine knows a family in London. The bomb exploded near the father's working place. He's all right but pretty shocked. I am really shocked.
the death toll has now increased and is believed to be more than 50, although an exact figure has not yet been released. We mustn't let this change our lives though, if we do, then the terrorists have won. all they'll have to do then is sit back and watch us be afraid. so we need to carry on with life as normal.
Aragorn you are the 1st american who has ever had the nerve to admit their country was to blame for 9/11.I wish more people had the courage to stand up and speak the truth......
Insele the only love Al Qeada feel is for Allah, as he will take care of them all..according to their twisted version of their beloved Koran. A true Muslim is forbidden from carrying out any violent acts against another human being..in Islam its punishable by death...you can bet that the Muslim community are every bit as frightened and disgusted as we are right now..
I agree. I feel sad for those who are muslam, and not like this, because now people blame all of them. I hope that yoiur right in saying that nothing will happen to canada if we keep to ourselves. We're usually good at that. We're known for piece.
If Canada has nothing what so ever to do with Bush and does not give support to his balls up in Iraq then you might get into Al Qaeda's good books... it is because Britain went to war against a muslim country and because we are hosting the G8 summit that London was targeted...I hope Canada stays safe as I wouldn't mind seeing a bit of it...
I am glad that there are Americans who really admit that their coujntry is to blame.
Claire I agree we should not let that change our lives, but ... for example in Germany ... who knows, every country is in danger of things like that.
Everyone should look to tghe mayor of london for inspiration. His speeches have been top quality. If we want to get rid of terrorists, it's pretty easy, the area of Afghanistan and Pakistan where they opperate should be given over to the taliban, once they're in control, since most of the people there are screwed up islamic extremists, just drop enough nuclear bombs to wipe out everyone there and a significant portion of the problem will be solved.
Woa ... that is harsh though ... I mean, so many children and innocent woman could die then. I wish they could catch terrorists only, without killing innocent people. I know that is not easy but I wish it was.
Yes that is true, but these are all supporters of the terrorists and they grow up to be screwed up. Pakistans army is always in there trying to sort the problem but it won't go away while the people remain. That area of the world just needs to be iliminated. It won't solve the entire problem, but it'll be a start. We can then make laws which ensure that anyone who supports terror or speaks in favour of it is immediately got rid of as well. Terrorists have their own radio station opperating from London and still we didn't see this coming? it was only a matter of time and as harsh as it is, we really did diserve it for been soft, leanient, undetermined and for making ourselves vulnerable. If the only way for us to become safer is for the terrorists to expose us, if we won't learn the easy way, then we'll have to learn the hard way.
